Beyond Sushi

Wow, favorite restaurant.

Omg.

Step into a world where innovation meets flavor. Beyond Sushi, located in NYC, is not just redefining plant-based cuisine, but revolutionizing the entire vegan food industry. It was a positively shocking and amazing palate experience that lead to my mom and I coming here twice on our weekend trip. Beyond Sushi’s atmosphere is best described as comfortably upscale. At dinner the lighting is dimmed and the tone of the decor presents a sense of elegance while lunch presents the atmosphere of a hangout spot. For both meals our service was phenomenal, the food came out fast and our waiters were super helpful in explaining the menu. The menu had dishes I’ve only dreamed of being able to try - tartare - which as a vegan and vegetarian you see but never expect to be able to eat a vegan version of it. But thankfully for all the foodies out there, the vegan industry is exponentially advancing and one of those amazing inventions is vegan fish such as tuna and salmon. Now let’s get into the amazingly delicious food!

First Night!

Miso Soup

This was my mom’s first time having miso soup in 18 years. It honestly tasted like non vegan miso soup-g

reat flavor and especially great salt content. We came to Beyond Sushi on a cold rainy day and this soup was the perfect w

arm dish. We even ordered extra to go!

Rainbow sushi

 The sushi has a b

eautiful presentation and it f

elt like eating a rainbow by how colorful it was. Great combo of flavors here and everything was so fresh

- loved the dill seasoning combo with the other ingredients. The top of the sushi had thinly sliced vegan tuna, vegan salmon and avocado. I was stoked to be able to

try vegan salmon and tuna for the first time.

The tuna was a gelatin like substance-like more stiff jello. The salmon actually had white lines, very soft dissolved in mouth.

Fried chick’n Bao

Wow flavor explosion in your mouth

- both tangy and spicy.  The v

egan chick’n was very crispy and delicious it didn’t taste like freezer nuggets it was deluxe : great breading and texture. Overall was a little too spicy for me but left me wanting more and honestly dreaming about it. Bao was soft and squishy, it was perfectly made. Perfect combo of flavors, great sauce, and beautiful presentation

Second night!

Ordered miso soup again going on 3 in 12 hours!

Smoky mushroom sushi

This dish was very elegant and earthy. There was eggplant on top of the sushi roll and I normally don’t like eggplant but it was great with the tangy ponzu sauce. I am a huge fan of that ponzu sauce. On top of the eggplant was vegan caviar balls which burst in your mouth. They had a thin outer wall and the flavor inside was tangy/very slightly sour at first but then turned neutral/sweet. Overall so much flavor I can’t do it justice-it was a delicious experience!

Beef dumplings

The chilly side sauce was the highlight-tangy, sweet and spicy. Perfectly complemented the saltiness of soy sauce and offset the dumplings more meaty flavor. I will say it was a little bland until dipped. Sauce, chili oil and sesame added the perfect crunch and texture.

These chefs know how to make an experience with the flavors and the colors were very well rounded and very nicely put together.  I cannot stress enough how much Beyond Sushi is a must try when in NYC!!
